Detroit Police put brakes on carjacking spree with arrests

DETROIT, Mich. (WJBK) - There were three carjackings and a robbery in a three-hour period Tuesday night.
Both cars were recovered overnight, while the head of Detroit's commercial auto theft squad says carjackings are becoming more violent. They are also happening less often -  and police are making more arrests.

All five of the carjackers were arrested, ranging in age from 23 to 14. Police believe they were looking for their next victim.

One of the carjackings was all caught on camera. this is surveillance video from a gas station at Joy  Road and the Southfield Freeway,  a crew of five set its sights on a blue Chevrolet Malibu.

The driver of the Malibu and his passenger were robbed and roughed up. The driver seen here forced to give up his earrings, stolen right out of his ears.

The silver pickup truck at the bottom left of the screen was stolen earlier in the night. Surveillance cameras captured the crew taking the truck and running over the driver.
