Teen hospitalized after lightning strike

Posted: Updated:

Officials confirm a teen is recovering after a lightning strike hit his work site Tuesday afternoon.

Fire officials say the incident happened on Cobb Parkway in Marietta.

Two men were pressure washing a roof when a lightning bolt hit the rooftop of the plaza where they were working, knocking one of them out.

Marietta Fire and Rescue crews had to battle the drenching rain and wind to get to the rooftop where the 19-year-old worker was unconscious.

Emergency crews stabilized him and strapped him to a stretcher to get him off the roof to a waiting ambulance.

The worker was rushed to Kennestone Hospital where he is in stable condition.

Authorities say never underestimate the power or proximity of a storm.

"If you can hear it, lightning is close enough to strike. Don't take any chances, just seek shelter immediately," said Officer David Baldwin with the Marietta Police Department.
