HUNTINGTON WOODS, Mich. (WJBK) - The cleanup is ongoing after the past two weeks since metro Detroit was overwhelmed with rain and flooding.

Trash trucks were a welcome sight in many neighborhoods today but at the start of week three for flood victims, the healing is just getting started.

At a Huntington Woods residence. Fox 2 found a crew sorting and itemizing lost items with trash piling up on the curb and precious photos and memories drying in the garage.

Jon and Ilene had up to 5 feet of sewer water in their home.

"I was in shock," Ilene said. "It was black water up to the fifth step and that started the nightmare."

Fans - blowing non-stop represent the start of the recovery. but getting back to normal will take time, flood victims say.

"We lost everything," Jon said. "We lost the furnace, hot water tank, washer and dryer."

"We had a beautiful finished basement," Ilene said. "So it's a disaster."

Down the street Fox 2 saw overwhelmed and overworked garbage collectors finally catching up.

In the city of Detroit, we're told trash collection is now complete on the east side and crews should get to the rest of the city in the next two days.

In Dearborn Heights a flood resource center opened Monday at the Richard Young recreation center for people to connect with various state agencies. Clean up kits were also handed out

Another flood resource center for Wayne County residents will be open at the board of education office in Ecorse on west Outer Drive from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. Tuesday.
