LINCOLNSHIRE, Ill. (Sun-Times Media Wire) - A northwest suburban man has been charged with drug-induced homicide for selling heroin to a man who overdosed and died last month.

John Smolinski, 26, of the 100 block of North Edgewood in Wood Dale, is being held at the Lake County Jail on a $500,000 bond, according to Lincolnshire police.

Smolinski allegedly sold heroin to 26-year-old Connor Moore on the evening of July 27, according to Lincolnshire Detective John-Erik Anderson and the Lake County Coroner's office.

Family members called 911 after they found Moore unresponsive the next morning at his Lincolnshire home, Anderson said. He was pronounced dead at the scene. Authorities would not release his home address.

An autopsy detected opiates consistent with heroin use in Moore's system, and his death was ruled an accidental overdose, Coroner Thomas Rudd said.

Witness statements and cell phone records helped investigators determine Smolinski sold the drugs to Moore on Chicago's West Side, Anderson said.

Smolinski was arrested near his home Saturday, police said. He is next scheduled to appear in court Aug. 28, according to the Lake County Sheriff's office.
