About 100 firefighters descended very quickly on a brush fire along Burbank Boulevard near Woodley. If there was something good about this location it was that it was in the Sepulveda Basin which is basically like a big flood control channel when we get heavy rain. We haven't had much of that so the brush has grown and is pretty thick. It's not clear what started the fire that was first estimated at between 2 to 5 acres, but it became clear very quickly that this blaze was no threat to homes and simply had to be managed. There was wind, but not enoughto carry it very far so, firefighters and handcrews got to work and made prettyquick work of the blaze. A big hero in this fight was an Erikson SkyCrane. Picking up water from the nearby reservoir it made a number of pinpoint drops drowning flames before they got to be a big problem. There were traffic issues on the 405 and nearby Sepulveda Boulevard at Burbank. But, the bottomline, this fire was managed pretty quickly.
