New River community deals with massive monsoon aftermath
By FOX 10 News Staff
NEW RIVER, Ariz. -
This week's massive monsoon storm left extensive damage throughout New River. Many homes are covered in mud and some were virtually destroyed.
Chris Stevens had been renting a home in the area. After the storm hit, mud covered the inside of the home and it was severely damaged. The family is unable to live there in its current condition. To make matters worse, Stevens' renter's insurance didn't include floods.
Despite his challenges, Stevens is staying positive.
"Pretty devastated. I mean everything we have from me and my wife being together 19 years is washed out the wall, down the river," said Stevens. "I think you start over. The only way you can go is to go forward. You can't look back, can't rewind it."
Tracie Tomlinson's home was seen on televisions across the country as it was surrounded by flood waters during the storm.
She showed her mud-covered home and the unlivable state it is in. Luckily, she has a strong support system to help her through the tragedy.
