NORTH BRANCH, Minn. (KMSP) -

A 11-year-old boy from North Branch, Minn. is fighting for his life at Gillette Children's Hospital in St. Paul after he was hit by a car while walking with his dad. Neighbors said Dallas Kasper is a “super nice kid” who remains in their thoughts and prayers.

North Branch police said Dallas and his dad were walking along Fill Avenue near 375th street around 8 p.m. when something caused a driver to drift across the road and hit the boy right in front of his driveway. Dallas was knocked unconscious, driven to the hospital and later airlifted to Regions Hospital in critical condition.

“We're thinking driver inattention or distraction may have caused it, but it's still early in regards to why,” North Branch Police Chief Dan Meyer said.

Police said the 46-year-old driver lives in the area and she has been cooperating with the investigation. She immediately stopped to help the boy and hasn't been issued any sort of ticket.

Some people who live along Fill Avenue said a curve in the road has always posed a danger to pedestrians and they feared something like this would happen.

Dallas Kasper remained in critical condition Friday evening.
