Cops arrest murder suspect who wore tether at time of crime

Posted: Updated:
DETROIT (WJBK) - On Tuesday, 29-year-old Sajad Al Jabur was trying to buy some used cell phones from three men on Westbrook near Outer Drive in Detroit, something his brother, Saif Al Jabur, says the manager of a PCS store has done before.

But this time, his Sajad was set up.

"They walked up with a fake box pretending that there was a phone in there and it was a gun," says Saif. "My brother tried to leave, he tried to run away, they just shot him a couple times in the head."

Within hours, three men were arrested. Why was it so easy for police to track the suspects down? Doyle Mims, 20, was still wearing his tether. His electronic monitoring device alerted authorities.

Wayne County was able to place him at the scene of the shooting and then track Mims and another suspect down at a house on Rutherford.

Mims had been wearing a tether for another felony, another shooting, but that time Mims decided to cut it off. He spent a couple months behind bars for damage to police property and escaping before, records show, he was placed on probation - just four days before Mims allegedly killed Sajad.

Sajad leaves behind a wife and two daughters.
