Arrest made in Prince George's Co. mother's murder

Posted: Updated:
Prince George's County police say they've made an arrest in connection to the murder of a mother found dead in her home on Monday.  Investigators say 39-year-old Tor Chiumba Campbell of Greenbelt killed 36-year-old Shauntelle Marie Lewis.

Officers took Campbell into custody at his home on Greenbelt Road Tuesday.  He is charged with first and second-degree murder as well as armed robbery.

According to police, Shauntelle Lewis agreed to meet with Campbell after first dropping off her two sons at her mother's home in District Heights.  Police say sometime between midnight and 4 a.m. Monday, Campbell repeatedly stabbed Lewis in the upper body before taking a car belonging to her mother and crashing it into a wooded area in Greenbelt.

Co-workers of the veteran Children's Hospital lab technician say Lewis had recently broken off a relationship with Campbell, and told them she didn't want to see him anymore.  One co-worker said she had even alerted hospital security about him, but that information could not be confirmed.

Police say after learning her car had been abandoned in Greenbelt, Shauntelle's mother went to the apartment to check on her daughter, and after leaving her grandchildren-- ages 10 and 5-- outside, she went inside and found her daughter's body.  Police say when they searched a home where Campbell once stayed, they found bloody clothes and a knife.

A neighbor described Lewis as a quiet, humble woman who was independent and loved to go to church, and her children.
