WASHINGTON - If you've lived around the Washington metro area for more than five decades you may remember what it was like before the Capital Beltway.
You may remember and all the congestion that came along with it too! On Saturday, the area marked 50 years since the final piece of the Capital Beltway opened back on august 17, 1964. Portions of the highway opened in 1957, but when the road was finally completed, it helped connect Maryland to Virginia. The Capital Beltway is 64 miles long and wraps around the nation's capital. Many credit the Capital Beltway for helping spur the major growth in the surrounding suburbs of D.C. over these last five decades.
