Bystanders rescue priest, 93, from Lake Michigan

CHICAGO (Associated Press) -

Bystanders rescued a 93-year-old retired priest after his wheelchair rolled into Lake Michigan on Saturday afternoon.

The Chicago Sun-Times reports that the man was watching the Chicago Air and Water Show with his caregiver when the incident occurred about 3:15 p.m.

Chicago Fire Department spokesman Larry Langford says the priest was taken to Northwestern Memorial Hospital where he was in "pretty good" condition.

Langford says the priest and caregiver were distracted and the wheelchair "got away" near the Chicago Yacht Club and went into Monroe Harbor. He says people nearby pulled the man from the water before firefighters arrived.

Langford says he doesn't know the priest's name.
