Animal Captured On Surveillance Video In Norwalk Identified

Posted: Updated:

Two weeks ago a surveillance camera on a Norwalk store captured the image of what appeared to be a strange animal. As the experts and then everyone else from here to Japan started weighing in by email it became an African lioness, a jaguar .. a cougar. The only description missing was "Bigfoot!"

On Wednesday, a Norwalk man watching the video on a local TV station was sure that "mysterious animal" he saw was his pit bull-mix "Buddy."

Tired of the phone calls and emails the city took note. An Irvine detective agency, Hudson Investigations, offered to simulate the lighting conditions and use a surveillance camera to see if Buddy looked like the "mysterious creature." Matthew Adling, with the agency, said based on head and body size and other factors he was certain Buddy was the strange animal.

Equally mysterious was why the Mayor of Norwalk came out. But, his answer to my question on that seemed reasonable. Despite the silliness of some of what was happening he wanted to be sure there really wasn't an animal out there that could be harmful the community.

So, for this mystery... case closed good buddy!
