2 Kids found in car that crashed during high speed pursuit

Posted: Updated:
PHOENIX (AP) -- Authorities say two young boys were found in a car that crashed during a chase that began when an Arizona Department of Public Safety officer attempted to stop the vehicle for speeding.

The Department of Public Safety says two men ran from the crashed vehicle at a Phoenix intersection near the State Route 51 freeway, but were arrested in the vicinity early Thursday morning.

According to the DPS, the vehicle was going 98 miles per hour when it passed the officer early Thursday morning and over 100 mph during the pursuit.

The boys -- a 4-month-old and his 2-year-old brother -- were turned over to state child-welfare officials. The younger boy had facial bruises.

DPS says the boy's mother also was in the car. She and the two men were arrested on suspicion of various crimes.

Authorities say it's possible driving under the influence and drugs may be involved in this case.

No names have been released.
