Dog Abuse in Lancaster

Posted: Updated:

A disturbing case of animal cruelty out of Lancaster. At about 7:30 Friday morning, a couple witnessed a man horribly abusing his dog near a bus stop. They asked him to stop, but the man began yelling racial slurs at them, and continued hurting his dog. The couple recorded video of the abuse which includes the man slamming his dog on the ground. The couple reported the incident to authorities and turned over the video. This led to the arrest of 53-year-old Robert Martin. Sheriff's deputies say he is the owner of the dog. Martin is facing animal cruelty charges and is being held on $20,000 bail. He will face a judge on Tuesday morning.

Sheriff's Deputy Miguel Ruiz says the couple who recorded the abuse was instrumental in this case, and encourages other citizens to have the same courage to stand up against this type of crime.

Meanwhile, Daisy, the 6-month-old pit bull mix, was taken to the Lancaster Animal Care Center. She was checked out by veterinarians, and fortunately seems to be doing okay. Vets found no injuries on her and she was in good spirits, very playful at the Lancaster shelter on Monday. Daisy also went home with a foster family on Monday, who will make sure she is healthy and ready for a forever home. If all goes as expected, Daisy will be up for adoption toward the end August. Anyone interested in adopting Daisy should contact the Animal Care Center in Lancaster at 661-974-8087.
