Posted: Updated:
DETROIT (WJBK) - A woman is in custody after barricading herself inside her apartment with a shotgun, causing the building to be evacuated Friday morning.

Police say the situation started when the woman's husband came home from a party. Police the wife, suspected the husband of having an affair, fired shots with the shotgun through the front door. The shots did not hit anyone.

The husband made it out of the unit safely and told police his wife has been drinking and possibly taken some type of drugs.

One end of the Village Square Apartment building was unable to be evacuated as police say the residents were not able to exit safely. The only exit would have taken them in front of the woman's door.

Police say after about two hours of negotiation the woman exited her home voluntarily. She has been taken into custody and is expected to face charges. Police say the couple has a history of domestic violence.
