Trial date set for man charged with killing soccer referee

Posted: Updated:
CITY OF DETROIT -  A trial date has been set for a Dearborn man charged with a fatal punch to a soccer referee.

Baseel Abdul-Amir Saad's trial is set to begin Dec. 8 in Wayne County Circuit Court.

Saad was ejected from an adult soccer game in Livonia - when witnesses say he turned around and punched John Bienewicz in the face June 29.

Saad's attorney Ali Hammoud asked to have his client's bond reduced from $1 million and said he has concerns about him getting a fair trial due to the media coverage.

Saad is charged with second-degree murder of Bienewicz, 44, who prosecutors say was about to eject him from an adult soccer game.
