Mantua Woman Says Someone Is Trying To Poison Her Dogs

Posted: Updated:
MANTUA, N.J. -

A woman whose dog was poisoned with antifreeze now claims someone is trying to hurt her other animals. And she's got video to prove it.

"I did it to protect not only my son and the Chihuahua, but my new puppy. I don't think we can do this again," said Amanda Von Ahnen.

She put up a tall fence around the backyard of her Mantua home months ago and installed a security camera. However, she was shocked two weeks ago to see what it captured.

It appears someone is throwing things over the fence into her yard. It’s worrisome because she says someone poisoned her Rottweiler Bella last April, according to Amanda.

"She couldn't get up. I thought she was being lazy, so I nudged her and she was not moving. I had to carry her to the car," she said.

The vet told Amanda that 1-year-old Bella had been poisoned with antifreeze. The dog had to be euthanized. According to Amanda, she saw a bowl in her backyard that day.

"I couldn't believe it. I couldn't believe that someone would do that at all," she said.

Amanda also has a Chihuahua and soon after she got a rambunctious rescue Rottweiler named Gracie. Things were quiet until two weeks ago.

"I found a meat bone, a good size meat bone with meat in it thrown in my yard. Then, last weekend a pigs foot was in my yard, a fresh one from the butcher. I'm so worried that the bones are laced with something. I feel like somebody is trying to torment me and they're trying to kill my new puppy," said Amanda.

Chief Rodney Sawyer with Mantua Police says they had a person of interest in the April death of Bella. The person of interest was a neighbor who allegedly complained that the dog was vicious, but there wasn't enough evidence to charge that person.

"Because of the history and the prior event we're taking this as a credible act. We'll be in the area and making sure that no other animals are hurt," said Chief Sawyer.

The Mantua Police Department is asking anyone who sees something suspicious in the area to call them at 856-468-1900.
