Flyers D Timonen Being Treated For Blood Clots

Posted: Updated:
PHILADELPHIA -

Flyers defenseman Kimmo Timonen has been diagnosed with blood clots in his lower right leg and in both lungs, the team said in a statement issued Tuesday afternoon.

The news came by way of an injury update from Flyers General Manager Ron Hextall.

"Kimmo is currently being treated for this disorder back in his home country of Finland," Hextall said.

As last season came to a close, there were reports that Timonen had been considering retirement.

But in June the team announced that it had signed the 39-year-old defenseman to a one-year deal.

It's supposed to be Timonen's 16th season in the league.

Now, according to Hextall, "His return to play is yet to be determined."
