Reward offered in fatal Roseland shooting

Posted: Updated:
CHICAGO (Sun-Times Media Wire) -

Cook County Crime Stoppers is offering a $1,000 reward for information leading to an arrest in the fatal shooting of a man in his Roseland home last winter.

Police found Cleotha Brooks, 53, with “head trauma” in the basement of his home in the 0-100 block of East 104th Place on Feb. 28, police and the Cook County Medical Examiner’s office said.

An autopsy found Brooks died from a gunshot wound to the face, and his death was ruled a homicide, the medical examiner’s office said.

“The family said they cannot understand why Cleotha was murdered,” Crime Stoppers Chairman George McDade said in a statement.

“To his family and friends he was known as ‘Shane.’ He was an honest, hardworking, and dependable person, one of great integrity and moral character.”

Members of Crime Stoppers and Brooks’ family will meet near his home at 104th Place and Michigan Avenue to distribute flyers throughout the community, McDade said.

Crime Stoppers is offering a cash reward up to $1,000 for information leading to an arrest, McDade said.

Anyone with information should call (800) 535-7867 or text a tip to 274637 and include “CPD” in the message; callers can remain anonymous.
