GREENBELT, Md. - Grayson Goggin is now a normal 1-year-old, and he has the doctors and nurses at Children's National Health System to thank.  The story of how he got here, however, is one his entire family will always remember.

When he was 5 months old, Grayson got very sick.  His high fever and seizures were caused by bacterial meningitis. The Children's team acted quickly to treat him-- and thanks to the fact that Grayson's illness was caught early, his doctors say they don't think he'll have any long-term effects.

Right around the same time, though-- something else was supposed to be happening in the Goggins' lives.  Grayson's parents were planning to get married when he got sick!  He was hospitalized at Children's for some time, but when he was doing well again, Laura and Joseph DID get married-- and they were able to celebrate held right in their son's hospital room after the ceremony!  Grayson was even able to for photos with his dad and mom, who teaches kindergarten at Rolling Terrace Elementary School, a Title 1 school in Takoma Park, Md.

Grayson's mom and dad gave back last year and took part in the 2013 Race for Every Child.  Family and friends joined them on their team, Grayson's Givers!

Want to help kids just like Grayson?  There IS something you can do!  Make a donation to this year's Race for Every Child, or register to take part in the race on Saturday, September 13!  CLICK HERE TO FIND OUT MORE.

Having a child with a serious illness or disability is overwhelming. Imagine dealing with that crisis and not really having many answers about how to treat it or what the future holds.
