Firefighters Honored for Heroic Effort in March House Fire

The DC Fire and Emergency Medical Services Department (DCFEMS) honored 11 firefighters for their bravery that resulted in the rescue of three people who were trapped in a house fire on the 1200 block of Stevens Road SE in March 2014.

"Our mission is to preserve life through fire suppression, rescue activities and pre-hospital treatment," said Interim DCFEMS Chief Eugene A. Jones. "In some instances, extreme personal risk may be necessary to carry out the mission."

A ceremony was held Sunday morning at Engine 15 in SE DC.

Battalion Fire Chief Thomas Dean was awarded 'Manager of the Year' by Chief Jones for his role as the incident commander for the tragic event. Chief Dean is the Department's nominee in the manager of the year category for the One City Mayoral Award.
