CHICAGO (FOX 32 News) -

Chicago Police have a person in custody Friday in connection with the armed robbery of several passengers on a CTA Orange Line train last week.

Police had a male in custody as of 4:30 p.m. Friday, Police News Affairs Officer Veejay Zala said. No further details were available.

Two men, one armed with a handgun, robbed multiple passengers on the train July 16 in the South Loop. The robbery happened at 4:13 p.m. on the train as it traveled between the Halsted and Roosevelt stations, police said.

According to a police source, one of the suspects pulled a blue steel revolver and the other said, “Give me your sh*t.” The second suspect began collecting items from riders and put them in a black backpack as the other pointed the gun at the victims.

The armed man struck one woman in the face with his handgun, according to the police source.

Authorities learned about the robbery after one of the riders who was robbed alerted CTA personnel at the Roosevelt station, CTA spokeswoman Catherine Hosinski said.

The transit agency held the train at the Harold Washington Library-State/Van Buren station until police arrived, she said.
