Problem affects 5,000 vaccine doses in Connecticut

Posted: Updated:

HARTFORD, Conn. (AP) — A Connecticut medical practice says a storage problem may have reduced the effectiveness of 5,000 doses of vaccines that were given to more than 3,800 patients in the state since last year and those people may have to get revaccinated.

Hartford HealthCare Medical Group announced Friday that it recently discovered the vaccine doses may have been stored at the wrong temperatures long enough to render them potentially ineffective. The doses included vaccines for a variety of ailments including the flu, pneumonia, tetanus and pertussis.

The doses were given at the medical group's locations in Enfield, West Hartford, Storrs and the Unionville section of Farmington. Patients are urged to contact their doctors.

The medical practice says the questionable doses pose no harm to patients, but it likely will recommend revaccinations.

Troopers and the sheriff's offices in neighboring Cattaraugus and Wyoming counties received reports of at least eight burglaries starting late last week. Police say the items stolen included cash, two safes and musical equipment. Most of the stolen items have been recovered.
