Pike Nurseries: Summer lawn care tips

Posted: Updated:

It’s summertime and the livin’ is easy! Well…mostly, but there’s still plenty to be done to keep your lawn looking its best. Here are some key tips for a beautiful, lush lawn… now, and year round!

Watering

It’s critical to keep your lawn deeply watered during these hot dry days The best time of day to water is early morning—it allows enough time for grass to dry (excess moisture can encourage diseases)

Mowing

Raise the cutting height of your lawnmower 1 to 1.5 inches. Tall turf shades the soil, slows evaporation and reduces weeds!Do not mow your lawn dry! Mowing a dry lawn will further stress the turf and expose it to the drying effects of the wind and sun Lay Sod

Now is the good time to fill in bare spots or to install a new lawnWe have a great selection of Bermuda, zoysia, fescue or centipede sod, varieties which are specially selected to thrive in Georgia. All are available by the piece or the pallet… and pallets can be delivered right to your door!Be sure to keep sod watered daily while roots are getting established Stay Green

Apply an iron supplement to fescue and centipede lawns to keep them green without forcing new growthBonide Infuse is a systemic protection that prevents and cures broad spectrum of disease on roses, flowers, lawns, trees and shrubs. It also will not wash off, lasts up to 1 month and is proven to encourage turf rooting.
