Howard Moore, UIC’s head basketball coach, announced on Thursday the addition of Jay Harris to the Flames’ 2014-15 roster, according to a statement from UIC.
A fifth-year transfer, Harris is a student from Wagner. He will have immediate eligibility to play, and will also attend graduate school for his final collegiate season at UIC.
“Jay will add tremendous experience to our program,” said Moore in a statement. “He has played and excelled in several high-pressure games throughout his career and he will serve as a great resource to our underclassmen and newcomers. He’s a fantastic shooter and the ultimate competitor.”
Harris plays guard and scored double figures on 13 occasions in the 2013-14 season. He is six-foot-one and averaged 2.8 assists, as well as 2.8 rebounds last year. He also shot almost 90 percent from the free throw line.
Harris was named as the fifth best prospect in Illinois and earned first team All-state honors by the Illinois Basketball Coaches Association.
