Two Dead, One Man Wounded In Shooting Outside A Local 7-Eleven

Van Nuys, CA -

(FOX 11 / CNS) A shooting outside a 7-Eleven in the Van Nuys area today left two men dead and a third man wounded, police said.

Officers were sent to the 8200 block of North Sepulveda Boulevard shortly before 6 a.m., according to the Los Angeles Police Department. Two men died at the scene and a third was hospitalized in stable condition, police said.

No arrests were reported. At least two suspects were being sought. Police said the victims were black men in their 20s and the assailants Latino. But there was no immediate indication that race triggered the violence.

From Gigi Graciette:

It was almost six o'clock in the morning at the intersection of Sepulveda and Roscoe in Van Nuys.

That's where police say four men met outside the 7-11 in the corner mini-mall.

The men appeared to first exchange a few words and then, a few bullets after detectives say two of them pulled out guns and opened fire.

And just seconds later, two men were dead. Right there in front of the door to the convenience store.

"Our two victims are male blacks in their mid-twenties", said LAPD Commanding Officer Todd Chamberlain. "And it appears that our suspects are Hispanics."

Grief stricken relatives of the victims quickly arrived at the scene; a mother asking police over and over to let her see her son's body.

It was heartbreaking.

Meanwhile, a third man, an innocent bystander who police say had nothing to do with the victims or the shooters was also injured. His leg grazed by a bullet.

A brazen shooting at a very busy strip mall but Captain Chamberlain said, this was no random encounter between strangers. The victims and their killers had some kind of a connection.

"At this time I'd definitely say its probably gang related, narcotics related", said Chamberlain. "There's some type of activity that caused this to happen."

"So they knew each other?", I asked.

"I don't know but it appears there's a possible affiliation somewhere."

The suspects, again described by witnesses only as male Hispanics, were last seen running from the 7-11 northbound on Sepulveda Boulevard.

If you have any information that could help detectives catch these guys, please call the LAPD.
