Frackville Girl Swept Through Creek Drain Pipe

Posted: Updated:

FRACKVILLE, PA- A 12-year-old girl is resting at home after being swept away through a flooded drainpipe.

Taylor Russell was looking at the flooding from heavy rain around a drainpipe, Monday near her home in Frackville, Pennsylvania.

She didn't notice a dip in the ground and suddenly got sucked under.

Taylor had been underground for about 200 yards before she emerged in little Mahoney Creek.

"I was swept under and I tried to look back to see if my sister was there and I couldn't yell because I didn't want to open my mouth so I didn't get anything in my mouth," said Taylor, "I came out and I kept hitting my head on stuff. There was rock in the water and I grabbed onto a rock and tried grabbing trees, yelling for help."

She was then rescued several hundred more yards downstream.

Taylor is now home from the hospital and is calling her near death experience dark and scary.

"I was surprised that I was still alive. I was like somebody pinch me I'm still alive. I'm here."

Taylor says although she's scared of water right now.

She'll try getting over that fear one step at a time.
