Police continue search for men who robbed CTA riders

CHICAGO (Sun-Times Media Wire) -

Authorities have released surveillance photos of two men suspected of robbing multiple passengers on an Orange Line CTA train Wednesday afternoon.

The robbery happened at 4:13 p.m. on the train as it traveled between the Halsted and Roosevelt stations, police News Affairs Officer Veejay Zala said.

Two armed suspects took various items from multiple riders, Zala said. No one is hurt and no one is in custody.

"I just got here from California so it's kind of, not really a nice way to get welcomed to the city but I'm still excited for it," said tourist Eva Van.

Authorities learned about the robbery after one of the riders who was robbed alerted CTA personnel at the Roosevelt station, CTA spokeswoman Catherine Hosinski said.

The transit agency held the train at the Harold Washington Library-State/Van Buren station until police arrived, she said. Service was delayed about eight minutes.

Unconfirmed dispatch reports said at least one of the men was armed with a revolver.

"We pay our money for the CTA and you have all these cameras, you're charging us extra money and I mean, where was the security at," asked Chicagoan Tracy Tucker.

Police are reviewing surveillance video in the case, Zala said.

Anyone with information is asked to contact Area Central detectives at (312) 747-8380. The CTA is reminding riders they have a number of safety tips listed on their website.

FOX 32's Tisha Lewis and Anita Padilla contributed to this report.
