Jogger says man exposed himself to her in DC's Mount Pleasant area

Posted: Updated:

There is a warning for joggers in the Mount Pleasant neighborhood of Northwest D.C. Police are searching for a man who allegedly exposed himself to a woman and then ran after her.

It happened just after 5:30 p.m. Monday along the Klingle Road.

The alleged victim, Allyson, says she jogging toward Rock Creek Park when she neared a gap in the chain link fence along the bridge and saw a man exposing and touching himself.

She says, "At that second, a lot of things run through your head, like should I call the police? Should I turn around really quickly? Should I just keep running?"

Allyson says she started running away and called a friend. She says while she was on the phone, the man started running after her. She says she screamed and her friend told her to call police.

"By the time I called 911, he disappeared," says Allyson. "I think he must have gone down Rock Creek Park to get away because I was clearly going to make a scene.”

Allyson says her route that day is a path she runs all the time, and she had no reason to be concerned about her safety. She says what makes her frightening encounter worse is that the man didn't look threatening.

She says, "From what I gathered from this individual is someone who I wouldn't have turned away if they approached me for directions on the street."

Allyson describes the suspect as a stocky, clean cut, Latino man, who was wearing a white t-shirt and jeans.

Police searched for the suspect and didn't find him.

Allyson says she is speaking out to help warn others and hopefully keep them safe.

"I don't plan to stop running, but I probably will be a little more careful in that area in general and probably look into a running group," she says.
