Researchers find women in red are more sexually threatening to other women

Posted: Updated:
WASHINGTON -

Red. It's a spicy hot color. And it turns out if you wear it, you might be sending an unintended message.

Some researchers at the University of Rochester showed photos of the same woman wearing different colors -- red, white and green.

"We asked women various questions,” says psychologist Adam Pazda. “How interested in sex does this person seem? How flirtatious is she? How seductive is she? The exact same person wearing red, relative to white or green, is perceived as much more sexually interested and available."

Women said they were more likely to keep their boyfriend or husband away from someone wearing red.

The researchers say there is useful information in the results of this study.

"We go around thinking color is just here for our visual pleasure, but really color can convey all kinds of information to people," says Pazda.

It was commuter confusion out on Interstate 66 Monday morning. Drivers heading eastbound towards Washington D.C. wound up seeing their traffic lanes suddenly turn into a mess. Lane stripes somehow pulled away from the road surface and created a mess of tangled tape and lanes that didn't make sense.
