WHITTIER, Calif. - California residents left a trail of destruction at a park after the Hidden Cash craze left clues that money could be found there.

Reddit user ShainaJoy says, "'Hidden Cash' came to my quiet neighborhood in Whittier, CA. They hid money in a small park where wildlife thrives. An estimated 800 people came to the park searching for money. This what the park looked like the next morning."

ShainaJoy posted the photos above the day after hundreds tore through Penn Park on Thursday night.

Residents caused $5,000 worth of damage and it took $1,700 worth of Whittier police overtime to deal with the aftermath, according to The Whittier Daily News.

The Hidden Cash Twitter account had tweeted a photo of Pez dispensers earlier in the day. Once the Pez dispenser's top was lifted, money could be seen inside.

Jason Buzi, a wealthy man in real estate, started the Twitter account as a way to give back and to inspire others to do the same.
