PG COUNCIL MGM VOTE - 10:00 a.m. The Prince George's County Council is expected to clear the way for construction of a new MGM casino at National Harbor. The county council is holding a hearing today and is expected to approve. MGM is planning a 300-room tower hotel and casino with 3,600 slot machines, 140 gaming tables, a theater, several restaurants, a spa and high-end stores. Construction to begin within weeks with an opening by the summer of 2016.

ARLINGTON IMMIGRANT IMPACT - Arlington County officials say they are monitoring situation of unaccompanied minors from Central America. The reason? There are questions of impact if those minor could wind up traveling to this area and entering Arlington Schools. School Board Vice Chairman Emma Violand-Sanchez &County Board member Walter Tejada recently met with representatives from the Guatemalan government, to talk about concerns over the school impact from young people from rural areas of Guatemala into the U.S. and DC area.

HOLDER ON REDSKINS NAME - You can add U.S. Attorney General Eric Holder to the list of officials calling for the name of the Washington Redskins name to be changed. Speaking on ABC's this week, holder called the name "offensive" the remarks by the top law enforcement official in the country could open up a new avenue of concern for owner Daniel Snyder. Just last month the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office's Appeal Board stripped the Redskins of its trademarks.

PENTAGON LAYOFFS - The Pentagon is laying off thousands of military officers, including those serving or who served in Afghanistan. Defense Department officials said the reductions are the result of mandatory spending cuts imposed by sequestration and are part of their larger plan to reduce the number of U.S. soldiers from 520,000 to 450,000. Gen. John Campbell has told Congress that 1,100 soldiers, including some currently serving in Afghanistan, would receiving pink slips due to sequestration budget cuts.
