FACEBOOK PROBE - Virginia Sen. Mark Warner is calling for a federal investigation of Facebook for experimenting with user emotions. In a letter to the Federal Trade Commission Warner is demanding a probe to "fully explore" a 2012 Facebook study in which the company overexposed users to either positive or negative content in their News Feeds to examine how it impacted their emotions.
Facebook says it was simply trying to get feedback on users newsfeed.

MD VS. VA FOR FBI - There is a big battle brewing between Maryland and Virginia and it may come into clearer focus very soon. The federal government is expected reveal the sites it's considering for a future FBI headquarters. Contending sites include one near the Greenbelt Metro station, land in Springfield, the former Landover Mall and Poplar Point, a waterfront property in Southeast D.C. but the government says 50 acres are probably needed. Which could rule out DC & VA

IRS EMAIL SCANDAL - The White House has a new area of concern in the IRS scandal and it's not on Capitol Hill. U.S. District Judge Emmet G. Sullivan is issuing a ruling in DC is ordering the IRS to testify how it lost a trove of emails to and from a central figure in the agency's tea party controversy. The IRS says it lost the emails in 2011 when Lois Lerner's computer crashed. Lerner headed the IRS division that processes applications for tax-exempt status. Lerner retired.

VIRGINIA BUDGET SHORTFALL - A new budget round of cuts could be in store for Virginians as state revenues fell below expected levels. The reason? Experts say a shifting job market due to federal cutbacks in defense spending.
The state wrapped up its fiscal year June 30th. The Commonwealth had $438.5 million less in revenues than projected, or a shortfall of almost $89 million more than anticipated when lawmakers adopted a 2 year budget in June that already included $1.55 billion in reduced spending.
