CHICAGO (Sun-Times Media Wire) - A man who allegedly handed a shooter a revolver before a fatal attack Sunday on the West Side is now facing a murder charge.

Michael K. Johnson, 27, is charged with murder, aggravated battery/discharge of a firearm and aggravated assault/discharge of a firearm in connection with the shooting that happened about 5:40 p.m. Sunday, authorities said.

Johnson was ordered held on a $1 million bond in court Thursday. He will next appear in court for a preliminary hearing on July 29, according to the Cook County Sheriff’s office.

According to prosecutors, an acquaintance of Johnson’s was involved in an argument with Donald Ray in the 5200 block of West Lake Street when Ray and his friend walked back to his car to leave.

Johnson went into a hallway and emerged moments later with a revolver, which he handed to his friend, prosecutors said. The suspect opened fire on Ray’s car, firing four to six shots.

Donald Ray, 21, was shot in the head and taken to West Suburban Hospital in Oak Park, where he was pronounced dead at 6:11 p.m., authorities said.

The other man, 19, suffered a gunshot wound to the upper right thigh and taken to John H. Stroger Jr. Hospital of Cook County in “stable” condition, police said.

The entire shooting, including the argument beforehand, was caught on surveillance video, according to prosecutors. Johnson also admitted to handing the gun to the shooter, prosecutors claim.

The shooter is not currently in custody, prosecutors said Thursday.
