Man gets probation in Glendale mall theft case

Posted: Updated:

PHOENIX (AP) - A Glendale man arrested in a shoplifting case that led to shots being fired has been sentenced to two years of probation.

A Maricopa County Superior Court spokesman says Michael John Hough was sentenced Tuesday by Karen Mullins on a conviction for solicitation to commit organized retail theft.

Hough and his wife Shaashana Marie Hough were arrested for allegedly trying to shoplift a drill Jan. 3 from a Sears store at the Arrowhead Towne Center.

As an unarmed loss-prevention officer tried to detain them, Shaashana Hough allegedly drew a handgun from a backpack and pointed it at the officer.

The couple fled on a motorcycle as a passerby fired shots at them but didn't hit anyone.
