PHOENIX, AZ -

A member of the armed forces who is recovering from injuries in Afghanistan received a special homecoming surprise. He and his family are grateful for their community’s outpouring of support.

FOX’s Kari Lake has the story.

It was a poignant arrival for U.S. Army Lance Corporal Eduardo Fuentes . The soldier had just seen his newly remodeled house in Peoria, AZ as thanks for his service to our country.

“I feel amazing, I still cannot believe this,” Fuentes said.

“You can pinch me maybe, I’m really happy,” Edurado’s wife Maria Fuentes said.

The soldier was injured when a grenade struck him in Afghanistan, shrapnel remains in his head and legs.

Now in appreciation, Building Homes for Heroes, has donated a home to the family. The recovering soldier surprised by the makeover and upgrades.

“Oh no I wasn’t expecting this is beyond what I was thinking about. I was just thinking a small house for my small family. This is insane,” Fuentes said.

The family says they grateful to local businesses that donated materials and worked on the home.
