Douglasville veteran presented with remote-controlled "smart house"

A wounded Marine veteran will be presented with his very own smart home on Monday in Douglasville.

The veteran, Corporal Todd Love, was injured while on patrol in Afghanistan in 2010. Love stepped on an IED and lost both his legs and his left arm.

Home Depot, in conjunction with the Stephen Siller Tunnel to Towers Foundation and the Gary Sinise Foundation, built the Douglasville home as part of the the Foundations' Building for America's Bravest program.

The 3,700 square foot "smart home" includes the following features:

  • Motorized cabinetry, allowing the internal shelving of the kitchen cabinets to descend at the touch of an iPad so that Todd can easily retrieve coffee mugs, plates, bowls, etc. on his own
  • Motorized doors
  • Automatic toilets
  • Multi-zone audio, heating and cooling
  • Full perimeter security camera and automated lights
  • Full room-to-room intercom
  • Full communication and control of the front door from any room in the house, enhancing security capabilities

All technology will be controlled by smart phone or tablet.

The home is being unveiled the week of June 30 to pay homage to patriotism and commemorate the July 4 holiday.

Builders broke ground on Valentine's Day as a nod to Cpl. Love's love for country and of course, his last name.
