Missouri Man Heads To Bar In Chicken Suit After Robbing Costume Shop
KANSAS CITY, MO- A bizarre scene Thursday evening in Kansas City.
Witnesses say a man broke into a costume shop and stole a chicken costume.
Then, he walked into the bar next door, where he posed for a few photos!
The Kansas City costume company is right next to The Cashew, at 20th and Grand.
"I can't believe he came back to the scene of the crime," said Cashew employee Amanda Blancarte.
A customer at The Cashew Tavern took a few photos after a man walked in Thursday night wearing a large flowing yellow robe and feathered hat. Some say he looked like a giant chicken in the get-up.
"He was taking pictures with people he was a little disoriented. You can definitely tell he was not in the right mindset. He just sat down there and people started taking pictures with him. He was enjoying it," added Blancarte.
Blancarte called 911 because about a half hour earlier she saw the same man smash through a display window at the costume shop next door and steal the outfit that she says made him look like "Big Bird." customer Autumn Morningsky recorded a video on her cellphone when police arrived to arrest him.
"Half a dozen patrons watched him burglarize and run off in this full costume. And then he's going to come back in that same costume and sit at that same bar. I mean it's pretty ballsy," said witness Autumn Morningsky.
Morningsky says the man called himself "Dirty-Dirty." The owner of the costume shop says a police detective told him the burglar did not immediately identify himself. He was being treated at the hospital for mental health issues.
People at the costume shop tell me that cape and hat had been in storage for 20 years. They were purchased from an Atlantic City show. The owner says he's more upset over the broken plate glass window, which will cost him more than a thousand dollars to replace, than over possibly losing that costume.
