You may soon get a call from your doctor if you're not keeping up with healthy activities.

There's something new some hospitals are doing to track patients and it's causing a little bit of a controversy.

Some hospitals are starting to use detailed consumer data to create profiles on patients.

The idea is that doctors would be able to identify patients most likely to get sick so hospitals could intervene before they do.

Hospitals would gather information on patients compiled from public records and credit card transactions.

This means hospitals would be able to see what you're spending your money on and they'd also be able to see if you're smoking, drinking or eating unhealthy foods.

Not only that, but if you're a member of a gym and skip your trip to the gym, they'd know!

Right now, the largest hospital chain in the Carolinas is using this method while Pennsylvania’s largest hospital system uses in house data to track patients.

All the information would be private and bound by doctor-patient confidentiality agreements.

Although hospitals collecting data say everything stays private, there are a lot of concerns being raised.

Patients and their advocates say they don't want to be tracked and feel their privacy would be violated.
