Police are investigating a reported kidnapping and armed robbery in Montgomery County.

Police say the suspects forced one man to go to a bank and withdraw cash while they held another man at gunpoint at a nearby hotel room.

Montgomery County police swarmed the area around the Courtyard Marriott just off Columbia Pike around 11 a.m. Thursday after a hotel guest called 911 to say he had been held hostage for several hours.

Other guests were told to stay in their rooms.

Detectives say there are two alleged victims. One man tells police he was sleeping inside his hotel room around 6:30 a.m. when there was a banging at the door. Three men rushed in and demanded cash.

The victim says he had just won a large sum of money at the Maryland Live! Casino the previous night. He says they took it, but demanded more.

He eventually called his friend to the room.

“The man with the gun stayed here with the original victim and they told the second victim if you care about your friend, you're going to accompany the other suspects and withdraw a sum of cash from your account,” said Capt. Paul Starks of the Montgomery County Police Department.

An additional suspect, a woman, drove them to the nearby Bank of America where surveillance cameras captured images of one of the male suspects who was trying to force the second victim to withdraw cash.

“That transaction was foiled by the second victim passing a note, possibly on the back of a withdrawal slip, stating that there was trouble and he needed police,” said Capt. Starks.

As the bank teller called for help, the suspects took off. In the meantime, the victim back at the hotel room says the man allegedly holding him hostage received a phone call and left the room.

The victim tells investigators that once the gunman took off, he took off running himself across a parking lot all the way to the Home Depot store where he sought help and called police.

Neither victim was seriously hurt. They say the suspects are not known to them, but according to detectives, the investigation is in the preliminary stages.

If anyone recognizes the man in these photos, police want to hear from you.
