Forgotten Harvest seeking donations for new trucks

Posted: Updated:
OAK PARK, Mich (WJBK) -- Forgotten Harvest is turning to crowdsourcing to get donations for a new fleet of trucks.

Forgotten Harvest works to deliver fresh food that would otherwise go to waste.  Last year, they rescued about 47 million pounds of fresh food that would have been thrown away--that's about 47 million meals for people in the local area.

Their current trucks are aging and in order to keep doing good work, they need to upgrade.

Combined, Forgotten Harvest's trucks drive roughly 500,000 miles each year making runs to pick up and deliver food.  The organization hopes to replace 8 trucks in its aging fleet over the next year.

An anonymous donor has made a gift of $100 thousand toward the purchase, but Forgotten Harvest is looking to get at least $60 thousand more.

Donations can be made on their CrowdRise donation page by individuals or by teams working together to raise money.
