World Cup fever: Press briefing delivered in USA red, white and blue

Posted: Updated:

WASHINGTON - U.S. State Department Deputy Spokesperson Marie Harf gave her daily press briefing Thursday dressed in a red, white and blue sweatshirt in support of America's World Cup team. Harf held the briefing earlier than usual so as to finish before the match began. The department also set up the televisions in the briefing room so members of the media and staff could watch the match.

Many in the D.C. area have come down with World Cup fever. Team U.S. faces the German team Thursday. A win would help their chances of advancing to the next round of the tournament.

World Cup watch parties sprung up all around the DMV – the largest in the city’s Dupont Circle Park.
