Gov. Quinn to sign anti-bullying bill

Posted: Updated:

CHICAGO (AP) - Illinois Gov. Pat Quinn will sign legislation designed to crack down on bullying.

A Quinn spokesman says the bill the governor will sign Thursday will help protect students from bullying both inside and outside the classroom.

The legislation was sponsored by Rep. Kelly Cassidy and Sen. Heather Steans, both Chicago Democrats. It requires all public schools to develop and implement an anti-bullying policy.

The policy must include a definition of bullying, procedures for the reporting of bullying, parental notification, the investigation of reports of bullying and actions that may be taken to address bullying.
