Laura's Likes: Summertime Edition

Posted: Updated:

Summer time brings grilling, 4th of July celebrations and mosquitos. Here are some things that will help you out with all three of these.

Therapik

Let's start with the bugs. The mosquitos are active this summer. We put on the repellent, but it's inevitable. You and the kids are in for some red bumps this summer from the biting bugs.

Check out the Therapik -- a little tech toy to combat the bite.

Did you know most insect venom is sensitive to heat? Therapik delivers heat in the precise temperature necessary to deactivate the venom.

The company says this works on over 20,000 different species of insects and sea creatures.

The heat neutralizes the venom and increases blood flow to the affected area. It reduces swelling, redness, pain and itching.

Therapik can be reapplied as often as necessary until you have the relief you need.

The company tells me most Therapik users find that one 20 to 30 second application is enough to stop the itch and pain permanently.

They say the device is FDA confirmed as a treatment for stings and bites from mosquitoes, bees, wasps, hornets, black flies, ants, fleas, ticks, chiggers and even jellyfish and stinging nettle.

It's lightweight and battery powered.

They are $12.95 and you'll find these on therapik.com.

State Traditions

The 4th of July is right around the corner. Many of us break out the red, white and blue for the occasion. But I just discovered a company that helps you show your allegiance to your home state.

Many of us here in the D.C. area are transplants, so I know many of you will like this like I do.

The company is called State Traditions. They create sophisticated state and country-inspired apparel and accessories so you can show off your hometown pride.

Maybe you’re looking for a USA-inspired hat or belt for the 4th of July or a unique state logo for a sporting event.

Three guys were looking for a creative way to showcase their state pride around town and at the stadium. They started with polos and expanded the line. They do iPhone cases, swim trunks, cufflinks and ties. Go to www.statetraditions.com, click on your state and find the products you like.

Prices range from $3 to $85 depending on what you want. They include every state in the United States and have international offerings too.

Firebuggz

And finally, I have found the perfect summertime must have. Say hello to the new roasting pole from Firebuggz. This will create so much family fun that you will be hooked.

Bob and Tara Hurt in Minnesota are the masterminds behind this. He was a landscape designer, and together they say they are always looking for ways to fire up the fun in outdoor spaces.

They call this fire fishing. The wooden handle gives it the feel of a fishing pole. But the rod is made of stainless steel so it won't catch on fire.

It roasts the perfect marshmallow and hot dogs. You can even throw shrimp and veggies on there.

Flick your wrist like you're fishing to flip the food and roast it evenly on both sides.

The rod is easy to clean and there is a built-in safety mechanism to control the rod swing.

It is great for backyard fire pits, beach bonfires and camping trips.

You can find these on firebuggz.com. They are $23 a pole.
