Laverne McKinnie lost her son and is losing her faith in humanity. Dakarie McKinnie, 20, was gunned down Friday night. He had just gotten off work and was headed to his girlfriend's house near Wyoming and Pembroke when he was shot several times. Dakarie graduated from Mumford High School in 2011 and earned a track scholarship to a junior college in Texas. He was taking classes to become a heating and cooling technician, had just been hired on at a Chrysler plant, and recently learned his girlfriend was pregnant.

McKinnie's murder marks the 118th homicide in Detroit this year. His mother hopes someone will come forward with information that will help police find his killer.
