SAME SEX RIGHTS EXPANDED - Today The Labor Department will announce its clarifying rules of the Family and Medical Leave Act that will now cover same sex couples. Federal employees will now be granted leave to take care of a same-sex spouse despite where they live. The announcement comes on the heels of last years follows last years Supreme Court ruling striking down a provision of the Defense of Marriage Act denying federal benefits (like Social Security and joint tax returns) to married same-sex couples. But different states rules now won't affect benefits.

MCCAULIFFE VA BUDGET - 11:30 a.m. Will he or won't he? Gov. Terry Mcauliffe will show his cards today I his high stakes poker game with the General Assembly over a proposed 2 year budget. McCauliffe doesn't like that his Medicaid expansion isn't included in it and say it that does nothing to help uninsured Virginians get health coverage. McAuliffe has scheduled a late-morning news conference in Richmond to say if he will sign the budget; veto it as a whole or by line item; or seek another way to expand health coverage with billions of dollars in federal money under the Affordable Care Act.

GOP 2016 RUMBLINGS - 11:00 a.m. This week Hillary Clinton has grabbed headlines while out on her book tour. Today NJ Gov Chris Christie will speak in Washington at a major convention of Conservative Republicans who've been so,what skeptical of Christies conservative credentials. Christie will appear at the Faith &Freedom Forum today at the Omni Shoram hotel in DC. The speech comes the day after Christies rival, Wisconsin Gov Scott Walker was named in a criminal probe in bringing outside groups into lobby on his behalf in a possible violation of election law.

MARIJUANA REFORM - 9:00 a.m. Pope Francis this morning has spoken out against efforts in the US and elsewhere to legalize &decriminalize marijuana use. Today on Capitol Hill the House Oversight Committee will open hearing into the Obama Administration’s policy on marijuana specifically the health effects and science. Levels of chemicals that affect the potency of marijuana are raising questions about states not regulating potency or having tests to gauge impairment. Rayburn #2154
