Live Wires Close Rt. 70 In Cherry Hill

Posted: Updated:

SkyFOX was over Route 70 in Cherry Hill where live wires came down across all six lanes Tuesday night.

According to Fox 29’s Dave Kinchen, some lanes have opened up as of 10:00 p.m. Tuesday night.

Flaming wires pumped smoke into the air as they lay across a shut down stretch of Route 70, which is adjacent to the Cuthbert Boulevard Bridge.

Traffic backed up Tuesday night as police redirected drivers who were trying to get around the mess.

"The lights start flashing, alarms going off, so everybody has to evacuate pretty much," said hotel guest Kevin McDade.

Dozens of guests at the nearby Crown Plaza Hotel were forced outside on the warm night with the main power system down.

"Electricity is out, the kids had to walk down 10 flights of stairs with kids. That was a bit much," said hotel guest Rayna Harris.

As of 10:00 p.m. Tuesday, power at the hotel has been restored. The cause of the live wires falling is unknown.

PSE&G say 2,7000 customers were without power.
