Laura's Likes: Beach Edition

Posted: Updated:

The start of summer is one week away and beach vacations have already begun. Are you prepared? Here are some ideas for you.

We always need sunscreen, a towel and a cover up, right? Well, here are the latest and greatest that I've found in those categories.

Suntegrity

Sunscreen is paramount before you head out. If you know me, you know I don't like harsh chemicals in my products. This line called Suntegrity was introduced to me recently and I'm hooked.

Tricia Trimble lost her mom to melanoma skin cancer. She decided she had to do something in her mother's memory to make a difference so she created a holistic, mineral suncare line for the face and body to help others avoid the same fate as her mom.

What I love about Suntegrity is there are no harsh chemicals and no parabens. And they add in antioxidants and amino acids to enhance protection and help with skin repair.

The products have an SPF of 30. The active ingredient is zinc oxide, which is one of the best things you use for sun protection.

I checked the Environmental Working Group's Skin Deep database where they rank sunscreens and they give Suntegrity one of the best possible rankings. In fact, they received “Champion” status.

Each bottle has a quote on it. It says, "This product was made in honor of my mom and all of those who lost their lives to skin cancer. May you wear this sunscreen and smile in their memory."

Prices start at $24. You can buy it on suntegrityskincare.com.

Vertty

A beach towel is a beach towel, right? Well, not if it's a Vertty beach towel. Vertty is a company out of Portugal that is reinventing the beach towel.

There are no more boring rectangles. These are all about the angles. They are very large, but lighter weight towels with a waterproof pocket built in.

The fabric on the Vertty dries faster than your average beach towel. Their idea was to make the ordinary extraordinary, so they went for fun angles and created them in several bright happy colors.

But these are not cheap. $89 per towel.

Vertty launched less than a year ago and is already in 38 countries.

You can find out more and order the towels on us.tryvertty.com. The company says they ship within 48 hours.

Escapada Living

Now you've got your towel and your sunscreen is on. Now ladies, how about something to put over your bathing suit for the stroll to the beach or pool.

Well, I love a good coverup and I found a fantastic line of resort wear called Escapada Living.

Flipping through the pages of Vogue, the founder Natalia Castillo was inspired. But of course, most of us can't afford the lovely pieces we see in Vogue. So she got to work on this line of resort wear that's timeless, classic and affordable.

She says she is driven by color using rich hues and classic patterns.

Escapada Living was recently nominated by Inc. Magazine as one of America’s fastest growing companies.

Prices range from $60 to $100.

There are four shops in the D.C. area that carry the line including Robcyns, The Lucky Knot, 3 Sisters all on King Street in Alexandria.
