Police: Man shot in face at bus stop, walks home

Posted: Updated:
DETROIT (WJBK) - A Detroit man is in critical condition after getting shot in the face at a bus stop. Police say he walked home and woke his wife so she could take him to the hospital.

The 44-year-old security guard was just waiting on the bus to go to work early Monday morning at Harper Avenue and Morang Drive when some guy walked up and shot him in the face and took off.

The victim, blood gushing from his jaw, immediately moved into survival mode.

It was about 4:30 a.m. - who would be around to help?

The victim then walked three blocks back to his house and wakes his wife to go to the hospital.

You can see drops of blood at the doorstep and smeared on the door. It had to be terrifying sight.

Detroit police say the victim didn't know the man who shot him.

"You see your husband walk through the door with a gunshot wound, but he made it and said, 'Take me to the hospital.' God is good," says the victim's neighbor Mary.

Mary spoke with her neighbor whose husband had been shot. He was critical at the time.

"He went to surgery and he's going to be all right," Mary says.

"It's senseless. It's uncalled for. That could have been me - it could have been anyone." says neighbor Curtis Henderson.

People are angry and concerned about what's happening in their east side neighborhood.

Lamona Scott says someone pulled a gun on her 12-year-old son just last week.

"He only plays in the backyard now. If he wanted to go play, he's scared, so he [doesn't] even," she says.

And now, with what happened at this bus stop Monday morning, neighbors are hoping for more police patrols.

"My son just caught the bus there at nine o'clock this morning," says Oliver Davis. "It's shocking.
