The National Weather Service says a moist airmass remains over the region today. Numerous showers and thunderstorms are expected across the region this afternoon into this evening in advance of an approaching cold front. Rainfall rates within the stronger showers and thunderstorms could exceed one to two inches per hour. Recent rainfall has nearly saturated the ground in some locations and additional rainfall today will increase the risk for flash flooding in small localized areas.

In targeted areas that receive torrential rain for longer than 30 minutes, flash flooding may begin quickly and in a very localized area. Be aware of low areas that may flood. Never cross roads that are flooded. Turn around dont drown.

Precautionary/preparedness actions: A Flash Flood Watch means that conditions may develop that lead to flash flooding. Flash flooding is a very dangerous situation. Stay alert for warnings that may be required if flooding is expected in your area. You should monitor for warnings and be prepared to take action by seeking higher ground or seeking an alternate route if driving. Flooding kills more people than any other weather threat.
